Netflix’s ‘Sex Education’ film set in Newport bought by housebuilder

Netflix’s ‘Sex Education’ Film Set to star in new residential property development

Independent developer, Acorn Property Group has agreed terms with national housebuilder, Redrow, to purchase the Grade II listed building featured in the popular Netflix hit, Sex Education, to restore and convert the iconic building into stylish new homes and apartments.

Located in Caerleon, a historical town in Newport in South Wales, the scheme, will be known as Tempus at Parc y Coleg and will sit alongside, Parc y Coleg, Redrow’s development of 170 homes.

The Grade II listed building that will be restored and converted by Acorn was formerly one of the buildings used by the University of Wales, until it was closed in 2016. Since then, it became the location of the fictitious Moordale High in the hugely popular series, Sex Education, streamed on Netflix.

Tempus at Parc y Coleg will feature 44 one- and two-bedroom apartments within the former university building and 4 one-to-four-bedroom houses within the former Principal’s Residence and Caretaker’s Lodge. Acorn will complete a programme of external renovation works ahead of the completion of the site acquisition.

Renowned for its award-winning sustainable residential developments, Acorn is an independent development and regeneration specialist that has over the past 27 years successfully created residential-led refurbishment and new build schemes.  Acorn’s team in Cardiff secured the deal with Redrow.

Commenting on the new scheme, James Groombridge, Regional Managing Director of Acorn’s Cardiff Office, said: “We’re excited to be part of the redevelopment of this iconic site in the historic town of Caerleon, a town with a wonderful local history spanning from the Roman era.

“We look forward to delivering a scheme that not only preserves the now famous Grade II listed building on the site, but provides beautiful new homes fit for modern living.”

Wayne Rees, Land Director for Redrow in South Wales, said: “We are known for building stand out new homes in outstanding places, rather than the delivery of regeneration projects, hence our decision to sell the Grade II listed building to Acorn. They are the experts in the renovation and conversion of historic and listed buildings.

“Their team will now work with us over the next 12 months to complete the site clearance and external refurbishment works ahead of converting the building in line with the planning consents.”
