Pembrokeshire’s newest transport hub, the Glan yr Afon/Riverside Public Transport Interchange in Haverfordwest, officially opened on Friday 18 September.
Developed by Pembrokeshire County Council and constructed by Kier, the facility brings together a modern bus station and a multi-storey car park, intended to make it easier for residents and visitors to reach the county town and connect with public transport and onward travel.
Amenities include one-hour free parking, wide parking bays, an upgraded waiting area, public toilets including a Changing Places facility, and dedicated electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
The project has been supported by £16.894 million of Welsh Government funding through the Local Transport Fund, alongside £1.987 million of County Council match funding. A further £1.2 million from the Transforming Towns programme contributed to public realm improvements and works to the Prendergast Connectivity Bridge.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, Cllr Paul Miller, said: “This project is all about making Haverfordwest Town Centre easier and more convenient to visit.”
“It is a really important part of the wider regeneration masterplan for Haverfordwest. Taken together with our other significant investments in the town we’re bringing a vibrancy and vitality back to Haverfordwest, creating the right conditions for the investment and growth.”
“I’m hoping and expecting to be in a position to announce new further tenancies in the town centre shortly, secured on the back of these investments, that will act as further drivers of footfall to the town centre.”
Ian Rees, regional director for Kier Construction Western & Wales, said: “The new interchange creates a modern, welcoming gateway to Haverfordwest, improving connectivity, making public transport more accessible to residents and visitors, and supports the continued regeneration of Haverfordwest.”

The build includes 230 CFA piles, 620 tonnes of structural steel, 2,000 cubic metres of concrete, 3000m2 of public realm paving and more than 900 cladding fins.
