Gateley Smithers Purslow, the multi-disciplinary surveying, engineering and architecture practice arm of legal and professional services group, Gateley, has expanded its presence in South Wales with a new Cardiff office base and four team appointments.

The Cardiff team is led by regional manager and chartered building surveyor, John Osborn. He joined Gateley Smithers Purslow (GSP) in 2020 and was promoted to regional manager in 2022. He holds more than 30 years of experience in commercial building surveying work and has also previously worked within local government. At GSP, he specialises in heritage and conservation work within the commercial property and insurance sectors.

Over the past year, Osborn has helped GSP to grow the Cardiff team with four new appointments.

Senior building surveyor, Neil Morgan, brings 12 years of experience in insurance-based surveying to the Cardiff team. His appointment bolsters GSP’s insurance service offering in South Wales and will see him managing projects for insurance and loss-adjuster clients.

Matthew Daniels joins as a chartered building surveyor. He brings eight years of experience from a practice specialising in private client work. At GSP, he will focus on insurance projects including the recording of damage claims, as well as designing and specifying repair works.

GSP has appointed Rhydian Day as a senior structural engineer. He brings 15 years of specialist structural design and defect appraisal expertise to the team. As well as private clients, Rhydian has also previously supported housing associations, local authorities and loss adjusters.

Bryan Downey joins GSP’s Cardiff team as a chartered structural engineer. Downey brings more than 20 years of experience from a structural and civil engineering consultancy in West Wales, which he joined after graduating from Cardiff University. At GSP, he will focus on structural design and defects work, as well as subsidence work for insurance companies.

John Osborn comments: “Originally it was just me covering South Wales, however, as our workload in the area has rapidly increased, we have now set up a new office base in Cardiff and made four great additions to the team. Between the five of us, the team has extensive experience to support the commercial property and insurance sectors across the region. I look forward to welcoming our clients and colleagues to our new office and seeing how our team continues to grow and develop our service offering for clients.”

Gateley Smithers Purslow’s Cardiff office is based at Anda House in St Mellons Business Park. The office will be used by the team to service South Wales, as well as the South West of England.
