Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has been instructed to sell the lease for Benson’s Hotel, a waterfront pub with letting bedrooms in the heart of Llangollen, Denbighshire.

Located on Bridge Street on the banks of the River Dee, Bensons Hotel has been run by owners John and Veronica Davies for nearly 40 years and currently operates as a comfortable and eclectic bar with a spacious waterside beer garden, open from late morning to late evening.

The characterful two-storey property has riparian fishing rights and overlooks the famous bridge and weir. The property is on the market as John and Veronica wish to retire. The commercial kitchen and restaurant are no longer in use, and the 11 letting bedrooms, some boasting river views and balconies, now operate at a reduced scale. The hotel offers great potential for a new operator to reopen and expand the dining and overnight stay aspects of the business and maximise its full potential.

John and Veronica commented, “After nearly 40 wonderful years at the helm, we have decided to retire. Bensons isn’t just a business, but a cornerstone of the community. Over the decades, we’ve poured millions of pints, hosted unforgettable celebrations, and built a loyal customer base that now spans generations. The pub has grown alongside the town, and we will truly miss the buzz of the local community, the familiar faces, the conversations and the sense of belonging that made Bensons so special. There’s still so much potential for the future, especially with the unutilised restaurant space and guest rooms. Now it’s time for the next chapter and for someone new take the business to the next level.”

Llangollen is a much-loved tourist destination for sightseers and outdoor adventurers, with the eleven miles of canal stretching from Glendrid to the Horseshoe Falls being part of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal UNESCO World Heritage site. Close to Snowdonia, the town serves as a vibrant hub with bars, restaurants, boutique shops and supermarkets and is popular with tourists all year round.

James Dodd, Business Agent at Christie & Co, is managing the sale process and comments, “We’re delighted to bring Bensons Hotel, a standout opportunity in the heart of Llangollen, to market. With its riverside location, characterful features, and fantastic potential, this property offers an exciting prospect for operators looking to establish or expand in one of North Wales’ most vibrant tourist destinations.

A new lease for Bensons Hotel is available with an asking price of £90,000.
