Work has begun on a social housing scheme that will provide permanent accommodation within North Cornelly.
The four one-bedroom homes are being built on a site where uninhabitable flats were demolished at the Ffordd Yr Eglwys development, which is being delivered by Bridgend County Borough Council in partnership with Valleys to Coast Housing Association (V2C) and Welsh Government.
The houses, which are due to be completed in May 2021, are based on a modular method of construction. This uses structural insulated panels instead of traditional brick or timber frames, enabling them to be constructed much faster and more efficiently.
Funded by V2C and Welsh Government, the new homes will be completely self-contained, highly insulated and will benefit from modern heating and solar power systems to cut down on fuel bills.
When the Covid-19 pandemic began, the council and its partners took swift action and used specific Welsh Government funding to provide temporary housing for all who needed it. The next phase of this project is to now provide permanent accommodation, and the new homes being constructed at Ffordd Yr Eglwys will help us to achieve this.
One-bedroom houses are in high demand across Bridgend County Borough. These properties will benefit from having their own private gardens, and will offer additional space for activities such as working from home, which has become increasingly important during the pandemic.
The properties will be allocated through the Rapid Rehousing Protocol, which has been adopted to support people as they move on from temporary accommodation, and will form an important part of the overall support that we are providing.
