The opportunities will see participants offered shifts and shadowing experiences with the venues.
At the end of the traineeship, participants in each region will work together to curate and deliver a live music showcase at their local grassroots venue.
They will programme the line-up, promote the event and take responsibility for its technical and operational delivery, putting their learning into practice in a professional environment.
The council has provided funding to support the programme in Newport.
“This new scheme will be fantastic for young people looking to get hands on experience of working in the music industry, and we’re delighted to support Beacons bring it to Newport” said Councillor Emma Corten, cabinet member for culture and communications.
“It is vital that we make sure as many people as possible can access jobs and training within it. We know there is lots of young creative talent in Newport, but they also needs access to opportunities and connections to help them access those first rungs of the career ladder.
“This innovative scheme which Beacons have launched promises to do just that.
“I’m pleased we have been able to help two Newport venues offer placements. Training young Newport talent will only benefit our growing cultural offer. And they’ll have a chance to work on some of our key events coming up – stay tuned for more info on those!”
