The new Hub has been refurbished and extended to become the latest facility to open in the Council’s successful community hub programme. The £3million project has benefited from a grant under the Welsh Government’s Regeneration Capital Programme.

Extensive public consultation helped shape the design and layout of the new integrated facility which will now provide joined-up customer services from a high quality modern building. It incorporates an extended library, extensive IT provision, community café and kitchen, advice and interview rooms, a youth den, child-care provision, multi-use rooms and a large community hall and changing rooms.

[/aoa]Customers will also be able to access housing, benefit and advice services, free internet and Wi-Fi access, free phones to contact Council and other services and Into Work Advice and training, as well as a full programme of community activities.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Councillor Lynda Thorne said:

“I am delighted that our latest community hub is ready for the public and I know, from the high level of interest we have already received, that the community is excited about the opening too.

“Having visited the new building, I have experienced first-hand the huge benefits it will bring to St Mellons and surrounding areas. It will build on the success of other Community Hubs around the city and is tailored to the specific needs of this area.  I would encourage residents to drop-in and see for themselves what the Hub has to offer.”
