The new Parc Gwernfadog play area is officially open – Morriston’s first brand new play area for 25 years.

Offering children a fresh and inclusive space to play, explore and enjoy, the site features a vibrant mix of high-quality equipment tailored for toddlers and juniors.

Equipment at the park, which sits on land behind Morriston Comprehensive School, includes a new slide built into the bank, cradle and flat-seat swings, with a dish roundabout ensuring children of all abilities can join in the fun.

Parc Gwernfadog’s new playground is part of Swansea Council’s £8 million investment programme to transform dozens of play areas across the city.

Although Parc Gwernfadog is the first completely new play area in Morriston for a quarter of a century, other play areas in the community have also been updated and refurbished as part of the programme.

Council Leader Rob Stewart said: “We’re investing in a new generation of play areas to give children all across Swansea the chance to enjoy safe, fun and inclusive spaces in their communities.”

Decisions behind the new park equipment in Parc Gwernfadog were shaped by feedback from local families and councillors, ensuring the new facilities reflect the needs and wishes of the community.

Councillor Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure added: “We want children to have the best possible start in life and that includes having access to safe and fun places to play.”

All equipment has been carefully selected for its durability, safety and accessibility. The materials used are robust and weather-resistant and the layout encourages imaginative play and social interaction.

The playground has been installed by Dragon Play who have provided a number of the new parks across the city.
