Newport City Council has revealed the next list of roads set to be resurfaced over the next two years as part of its ongoing Fixing Our Roads programme.

The announcement follows increased investment in road repairs and maintenance as part of the council’s 2026/27 budget, with the authority saying it is responding directly to concerns raised by residents.

So far, resurfacing work has already been completed on more than 30 major roads across the city, including Chepstow Road, Cardiff Road, the A467 Risca bypass and Malpas Road.

Councillor Rhian Howells, cabinet member for infrastructure and assets, said: “When setting our latest budget, we were very clear that we were going to act on the issues that were concerning our residents the most. This included a significant investment into road maintenance and resurfacing.

“We know we need to go further with our resurfacing work. We are residents too; we use the same roads and experience the same frustrations. So, I’m delighted to announce the next list of roads we will be adding to our resurfacing programme over the next two years.

“This is real investment that will improve the condition of our roads. Investment to meet the needs of the fastest growing city in Wales. Investment to make going about your daily business easier. Investment into the things that matter to you, to me, to all of us.”

The council said the next phase of the programme will focus on roads identified as being in the most urgent need of repair work.

While the majority of the selected roads will receive full resurfacing, some will instead undergo surface treatment work designed to extend the lifespan of the road and prevent further deterioration.

A full list of the roads included in the programme is available on the Newport City Council website.
