As the world comes together to honour and appreciate our older population, Ceredigion is gearing up for a remarkable celebration of Older Persons Day 2023. With the aim of fostering inclusivity, support, and a sense of community among individuals aged 50 and over, this event promises to be a memorable gathering.

On 02 October 2023, Ceredigion Actif and Ceredigion Carers and Community Support Team will host an event bringing together over 40 organisations that offer invaluable help, advice, and support to our older population. This collaborative effort is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the county to make Ceredigion an age friendly community that enhances our lives as we grow older.

Key highlights of the event include:

    • A wealth of resources: with over 40 organisations in attendance, attendees will have access to a diverse range of resources. From health and wellness tips to guidance on housing and social support, this event will be a one-stop destination for all the needs of older residents.
    • Interactive workshops: engaging workshops and seminars will provide valuable insights into various aspects of senior living. Experts from different fields will lead discussions on topics ranging from healthy aging to technology adoption.
    • Community engagement: a sense of community is at the heart of this event. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with peers, share experiences, and build lasting friendships.
    • Entertainment and recreation: the event will not only be informative but also enjoyable. Entertainment and recreational activities, including gym taster sessions, will add a festive touch to the day.

Councillor Alun Williams, Ceredigion County Council’s Older Persons Champion, expressed excitement about the event, and stated: “Older Persons Day 2023 is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the rich experiences and contributions of our Older Persons. With the demographic changes taking place it is expected that by 2040 one third of our population in the county will be over 65. It’s important that we plan ahead for that by helping to bring together all the remarkable organisations doing such good work locally to create an age-friendly community.”

Councillor Catrin M S Davies, Ceredigion Cabinet Member with responsibility for Leisure, said: “I really hope as many people in the area come to this event to celebrate Older Persons Day and also to see and experience the Wellbeing Centre in Lampeter – it’s worth it.”

The event will take place at the Wellbeing Centre in Lampeter, between 10am and 3pm. Entry is free, and all members of the community are encouraged to attend.

Ceredigion County Council is committed to making Older Persons Day 2023 a resounding success. We invite you to join us in celebrating the wisdom and vitality of our older citizens on 02 October 2023. Together, we can ensure that every person in Ceredigion continues to lead fulfilling lives.
