Cardiff Council has revealed that more than 600 illegal off road bikes, e-scooters and other mechanically propelled vehicles have been seized and recycled across the city since last summer.
The latest enforcement operation, carried out by the council’s Off Road Bike Enforcement team and City Centre Wardens alongside South Wales Police, resulted in 21 illegal vehicles being seized.
According to Cardiff Council, a total of 633 illegal mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs) and e-scooters have now been seized and recycled since August last year as part of ongoing efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour and improve safety in communities and public spaces.
The council said all seized vehicles are disposed of safely, with batteries removed before the remaining components are recycled.
In a statement shared on social media, Cardiff Council said:
“Our Off Road Bike Enforcement team and City Centre Wardens have been out with South Wales Police tackling illegal mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs) to keep Cardiff’s streets and green spaces safe.
“A recent operation resulted in 21 illegal MPVs and e-scooters being seized, bringing the total to 633 seized and recycled since August last year.
“All seized vehicles will be disposed of safely, with batteries removed and all other components recycled.
“Huge thanks to everyone involved in helping keep our communities safe. Great partnership work from the ORB Enforcement team, City Centre Wardens, SWP Neighbourhood Policing team, and Immigration.”
The enforcement activity forms part of wider efforts across Cardiff to crack down on the dangerous and illegal use of off road bikes and e-scooters in parks, residential areas and the city centre.
