Children from across Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion joined hundreds of people at one of the largest processions in many years to welcome the National Eisteddfod to the area.
Members of Gorsedd Cymru, along with residents, led a procession through Narberth on Saturday, 17th May, for the proclamation ceremony and welcome of the Eisteddfod at Llantood in 2026.
Held from the 1st to 8th August 2026, the Eisteddfod – Eisteddfod y Garreg Las – will make its first visit to Pembrokeshire since 2002 and will be a unique collaboration with neighbouring counties, with the catchment not only including the whole of Pembrokeshire, but also extending into western areas of Carmarthenshire, and southern Ceredigion.
Local County Councillor Cllr Marc Tierney said: “The colourful and vibrant proclamation procession and ceremony held in Narberth on Saturday was really special to see. Thank you to everyone who made a special effort to welcome the crowds of visitors and members of the Orsedd to Pembrokeshire.
“The proclamation ceremony is steeped in tradition and what will follow in the Eisteddfod captures the best of Welsh culture and heritage, bringing people together through poetry, music and song.
“It was wonderful to see so many young people enjoying the events and talking part in the procession, I was pleased to offer my support for what I hope will be the first in a number of positive, well attended events leading up to Eisteddfod Y Garreg Las in 2026.”
John Davies, Chair of the local Eisteddfod Executive Committee, and County Councillor said: “It was a privilege to present the List of Competitions to the Archdruid. This is the culmination of many months work by the local committees. We’ve been meeting regularly to discuss ideas, poems and songs, and it’s great to share everything with the whole of Wales.”
Pembrokeshire County Council’s Welsh Language Champion, Cllr Delme Harries, added: “I’m absolutely delighted that the National Eisteddfod will be coming to our county next year. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our rich culture, heritage and vibrant communities.
“I look forward to seeing the whole county come together to support and celebrate this iconic festival. The proclamation ceremony was a truly wonderful occasion, full or colour, pride and Pembrokeshire spirit and it gave us just a taste of what’s to come – it promises to be a truly memorable event for us all.”
