Denbighshire’s planning committee has approved plans for a visitor hub at Moel Famau Country Park.
The visitor hub will provide a grab and go facility to be able to offer light visitor refreshments, an information point, toilet facilities and a small ranger and volunteer space, with associated works including a pump and pumphouse to feed water up to the main site.
UK Government confirmed their intention to provide £10.95 million of grant funding for 10 capital projects aimed at protecting Ruthin’s unique heritage, wellbeing, and rural communities.
This funding has been awarded exclusively for successful projects included in Clwyd West and cannot be directed to other projects, and as a part of this, the project for Moel Famau was awarded £1.3million from this fund.
The Moel Famau project will also look to improve the current cycle trails located along the southern boundary of the country park, with the improvements focusing on enhancing surfaces, signage and access gates in order to maintain an off-road cycling route designed for more experienced riders.
Councillor Alan James, Lead Member for Local Development and Planning, said:
“It’s fantastic news that the plans to introduce a visitor hub to the Moel Famau site has been passed.
“These sites are much loved Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and it is important that we continue to maintain and develop the sites as their popularity grows to ensure that they can continue to be enjoyed by all who visit”.
Councillor Jason McLellan, Council Leader and Lead Member for Economic Growth and Tackling Deprivation, said:
“The proposed visitor hub will play a crucial role in supporting the effective management of visitors to the National Landscape, ensuring the site’s sustainability for years to come.
“Over the past decade, visitor numbers have been steadily rising, and this hub will help accommodate that growth. It will serve as an information point, where visitors can access key safety information, learn about ongoing National Landscape campaigns, and receive guidance on exploring other local attractions in the area”.
