Thirty-three new one-bedroom apartments are set to be built in Ystrad Mynach as part of a partnership aimed at providing much-needed housing in the community.
The development at Winding Wheel Lane is being delivered by United Welsh in partnership with the Welsh Government, Caerphilly County Borough Council and Bluefield Land Ltd.
It will consist of three apartment buildings providing general needs housing, homes for residents aged over 55 and supported accommodation delivered through United Welsh’s Thrive service.
The site is located close to Parc Penallta and the facilities in Ystrad Mynach, giving residents access to local businesses, schools, the hospital and the library.
Nearby public transport connections include the bus station and Park and Ride railway station, helping residents travel throughout the wider community.
All 33 apartments will be built to AECB standard, an alternative to an EPC A rating. They will be fitted with technology intended to make them more affordable to heat, including solar panels and air-source heat pumps.
The energy-saving measures also support United Welsh’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
Timber frame structures for the homes will be manufactured by Celtic Offsite, a social enterprise within the United Welsh Group, at its factory in Caerphilly.
The frames will arrive at the site with insulation and windows already fitted. Development contractor Bluefield Land Ltd will then complete the buildings on site.

United Welsh currently provides more than 2,500 affordable homes across Caerphilly and plans to build 1,300 new homes throughout South Wales over the next five years.
The Winding Wheel Lane development is due to be completed in summer 2028.
