South Wales Police is continuing to investigate threats made against two schools in Cardiff, prompting their closure today.
The force received a live chat message at around 8.30pm on Sunday, March 15, which contained threats to harm people at Llanishen High School and Eastern High School.
Police said the information suggested that an individual intended to attend the schools while in possession of weapons.
The report is now being actively investigated as officers work to assess the credibility of the threat and determine where it originated.
Following discussions between South Wales Police and Cardiff Council, a decision was taken to close both schools as a precaution.
Police said the joint decision had not been taken lightly and was made with the safety of pupils, staff and the wider school communities in mind.
At this stage, officers say there is no evidence or report of anyone attending either school posing a threat.
An increased policing presence will be seen in the surrounding areas while investigations and searches continue.
South Wales Police said it understands the situation will cause concern for parents and the wider community.
Officers say they are working to fully assess the information received and ensure appropriate safeguarding measures are in place.
