Pool pods installed as leisure centres prepare to reopen

Preparations are underway for the reopening of gyms and pools in Bridgend County Borough from Monday 3 May.

Residents will be able to re-start their gym workouts and lane swimming at most facilities from this date, with indoor group exercises expected to resume later in the month. The pool at Bridgend Life Centre will reopen in June.

Visitors to the swimming pools in Pyle and Ynysawdre will benefit from new equipment after the installation of pool pods for people with accessibility and mobility problems.

Funded by Bridgend County Borough Council and Sport Wales, the equipment allows new wheelchairs provided as part of the pod to be lowered into the pool to allow easy access, making swimming more enjoyable.

The council’s leisure partner Halo has announced that when centres reopen, all activities will need to be pre-booked. This is an ongoing safety measure. Bookings can be made through the Halo Leisure app or on the Halo website.

In the meantime, Halo is offering live Halo@Home online group exercise classes led by its instructors that you can do in the comfort of your own home seven days a week. The full timetable offers classes such as power yoga, HIIT, Pilates, tai chi, and legs, bums and tums.

Classes are available for free while centres are closed due to Covid restrictions on the Halo app or website. You will need to set up a Halo online account to view the classes.
