Powerleague Cardiff will be one of six hosts to the 2024 Ladbrokes Players Cup five-a-side tournament, offering local teams the chance to win a sum of the record-breaking £100,000 prize pot at stake.

Following last year’s inaugural tournament, which saw five-a-side teams across England and Scotland compete for a £50,000 prize pot, the Players Cup has returned bigger and better for 2024. Ladbrokes will host a men’s and women’s tournament, comprised of six heats in Powerleague venues across the UK and Ireland, including Cardiff on the 23rd June. Additional venues include:

    • Manchester – 18th May
    • Dublin – 25th May
    • Glasgow – 1st June
    • Barnet – 8th June
    • Birmingham – 15th June

Two teams from each tournament heat will qualify for the Player’s Cup final which takes place in Birmingham on 13th July, with both men’s and women’s winners taking home a huge £10,000.

Runners up will receive a £5,000 consolation prize, whilst all teams will have the chance to win additional rewards and prizes throughout the tournament, taking the total prize pot up to £100,000 – the biggest ever cash prize at Powerleague.

The Players Cup is designed to bring the big time feel to grassroots football and offers five-a-side teams across the UK and Ireland the chance to be crowned the best. During the tournament, players will have access to Powerleague’s pitch camera technology which means they can capture and record moments of sublime skill. The top moments will be rewarded with prizes, while Ladbrokes will also share the best ones on their social channels.

The qualifying rounds and final will include live music, celebrity guests, unexpected moments and more.

Last year’s winners Slough Scorpionz, who will return for 2024, played a ‘Boss Level’ game against former Premier League legends including Lauren, Jérémie Aliadière, William Gallas, Clinton Morrison, and Paddy Kenny, and won an additional £8,000 for the finalists. The five-a-side champions also enjoyed an open top bus parade in the centre of London to celebrate their success.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes says “The Players Cup provides an amazing opportunity for football players of all levels to play together and showcase their skill on a national scale. We were blown away by the talent on show in 2023 and look forward to giving teams across the UK and Ireland a taste of the ‘professional footballer’ experience this spring and summer. With Slough Scorpionz returning for a second year, let’s see who can try and steal their crown!”

Christian Rose, CEO at Powerleague said: ‘’We’re delighted to be partnering with Ladbrokes on the Players Cup for the second year running, giving our customers the chance to win a record-breaking prize pot. Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, it’s fantastic to see the tournament expanding to more locations, allowing customers from all over the UK and Ireland the chance to compete’’.
