Powys County Council has approved a new digital strategy aimed at delivering faster, simpler and more sustainable public services for residents.

The Digital Strategy 2026–2030 sets out how the council will modernise services over the next four years, building on previous progress while responding to rapid changes in technology and the needs of local communities.

The updated plan focuses on creating a more connected and accessible service, aligned with the council’s ambition to deliver a stronger, fairer and greener Powys.

Cllr Raiff Devlin, Cabinet Member for Customers, Digital and Community Services, said: “Digital is central to how we deliver modern, sustainable services. This strategy puts our communities at the centre of transformation, focusing on making services more accessible and userfocused. It sets out a clear, corporate approach to digital transformation, led across the organisation, helping us deliver better outcomes for residents and prepare for the future.”

    Five key priorities

The strategy outlines five core themes that will guide digital transformation across the council.

Under “Digital Anytime”, the council aims to expand self-service tools, allowing residents to access information, submit requests and complete tasks online at any time.

A focus on “Innovative Technology” will see the council explore the use of artificial intelligence to enhance services and support future innovation.

The “Data and Insights” theme will ensure decisions are driven by evidence, helping the council better understand communities, identify trends and plan services more effectively.

Improving systems and safety is also a priority, with “Digital Infrastructure and Cyber Security” ensuring services are secure, reliable and capable of supporting innovation.

Finally, “Digital Futures” will focus on building digital skills among residents, staff and organisations, helping to reduce digital exclusion and ensure no one is left behind.

The council says the strategy will play a key role in shaping how services are delivered in Powys, with a strong emphasis on accessibility, efficiency and long-term sustainability.
