Rabbit Run Wales is back for 2026 and this year it will be even bigger and better than ever before.
Taking place on Saturday 18 July, this year’s event has the exciting addition of two new distances – a marathon and ultra marathon, as well as a marathon relay option.
Last year’s 40K race has been extended to a full marathon distance (42.2K) and new for 2026 sees a 65K ultra added into the mix.
The much-loved 12K race will still be taking place, seeing runners have the chance to run on the private grounds of the Merthyr Mawr Estate and through the Merthyr Mawr Warren National Nature Reserve, wading across its famed river crossing and tumbling down the Big Dipper – the highest sand dune in Wales.
Both the marathon and ultra marathon take in everything the 12K has to offer but also sees participants running along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast with dramatic cliffs, secluded coves, and breathtaking views. Highlights include Ogmore River, Ogmore Beach, Southerndown, Dunraven Bay, and the picturesque village of Monknash. Ultra runners go even further, adding a scenic loop through Llantwit Major.
For those who want to take on a group challenge, there’s the chance to take on the marathon distance as a team, in the first ever marathon relay. This is open to 20 teams of up to five runners, with each leg split up into varying distances.
Steve Brace, Race Director at Run 4 Wales, said: “Rabbit Run Wales is a true trail running paradise and has so many different terrains on offer for participants to enjoy.
“Adding a marathon and ultra marathon for 2026 is something we’re incredibly excited about and these new distances will give runners even more time to soak up the stunning scenery – from fast forest tracks and rugged climbs to open hillsides and sandy dunes, this event has something for everyone.
“We know people have been itching to take part in a longer run here and we can’t wait to welcome all our runners to take on these new challenges and experience how special this area is.”
The event is organised in partnership with the Merthyr Mawr Estate.
A limited number of early bird entries are available across all three distances, offering runners a ?5 saving vs general entry, but be sure to secure your space for this epic trail adventure fast as these are expected to go quickly. For those interested in taking part in the marathon relay the cost is ?85 per team (or ?75 for an Affiliated Team).
Booking is also open for camping and forest sauna sessions at Candleston Woods for those who want to immerse themselves in the outdoors and get lost in nature for the weekend.
