The long-anticipated refurbishment and repair of the children’s play area in Glyncoed, Ebbw Vale have been completed, much to the delight of the local community. The Council’s Street Scene team, in collaboration with specialist contractors Touchline, have successfully transformed the play area, which is now open for the public to enjoy.

The newly refurbished play area boasts innovative floor designs, including a vibrant snakes and ladders game, alongside significant upgrades to the existing equipment. The sports area, frequently used for football and netball, has also seen extensive improvements. The before and after pictures show a dramatic transformation, with the play surfaces now featuring crisp, clean lines and bright colours that clearly demarcate the play zones.

This project was made possible through the allocation of £32,000 from the Shared Prosperity Fund, ensuring the area was revitalised for community use.

Councillor Helen Cunningham, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Place and Environment, expressed her enthusiasm for the project’s completion. “Outdoor play areas are really important for local children and families. We are pleased to announce the reopening of the Glyncoed play area in time for the start of the school holidays, following the much-needed repair and refurbishment work,” she said.

The revitalised play area is expected to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for children and families throughout the summer and beyond, reinforcing the Council’s commitment to enhancing community spaces.
