Rhossili Sunflowers’ farewell post has gone viral for all the wrong reasons

Rhossili Sunflowers, one of Wales’ most popular seasonal attractions, has unintentionally gone viral after a typo in their end-of-season announcement left Facebook users in stitches.

The much-loved sunflower fields, which draw thousands of visitors each summer to the picturesque Gower coast, closed for the season earlier this month. As part of their yearly tradition, the organisers posted a thank-you message online, sharing the total raised for their chosen charity.

This year, Rhossili Sunflowers raised an impressive £1,006 in support of the Rhossili Coastguard Association.

But instead of saying the fields had “shut” for the year, their Facebook post mistakenly read that they had “sh*it” — and social media users were quick to notice.

The slip-up sparked hundreds of light-hearted comments and shares, with followers joking about the typo and praising the organisers for taking it in good humour.

One commenter quipped, “I don’t think the flowers deserved that kind of send-off!”, while another added, “Well, that’s one way to announce the end of summer.”

The team behind Rhossili Sunflowers have since corrected the post with the intended wording, but not before the original version spread widely online.

Despite the typo, the focus remains on their successful fundraising efforts. Each year, Rhossili Sunflowers donates proceeds from the fields to a local cause, and the £1,006 raised in 2025 will help support the vital work of the Rhossili Coastguard Association.

While the flowers may have “shut” (not “sh*it”) for the season, the organisers can at least take comfort in the fact that their final post of the year brought just as many smiles as their fields of sunflowers.
