Rhyl Library has won the All Stories national competition, which grants a fully funded writing workshop, aiming to encourage and support aspiring writers from underrepresented backgrounds.

The workshop, taking place on Thursday 14 November 2024 at 2pm, will introduce participants to the basics of writing for children and inspire them to develop their creativity.

Intended as a true introduction, the workshop requires no awareness of publishing, writing as a career or previous written work. The workshop will welcome people from underrepresented backgrounds of any kind.

To continue supporting local writers, a writing group will also be established at Rhyl Library, and a ‘writer resources’ pack, containing information about supportive writing organisations will be supplied through the funding. The pack will be made available to workshop participants, along with anyone visiting the venue after the workshop.

The workshop will be presented by Eloise Williams, an award winning Welsh author.

Deborah Owen, Principal Librarian at Denbighshire County Council said:

“We are excited to be able to offer this fantastic opportunity for local writers to embrace their creativity, and work with an established author in a writing workshop which explores writing for children.”

This workshop is one of 16 All Stories workshops being held across the UK, and is made possible with funding from Arts Council England, Inclusive Books for Children and the Authors’ Licencing and Collecting Society.
