Motorists are being urged to avoid part of Abercynon after a serious road traffic collision led to the closure of a key route through the village.

South Wales Police confirmed that Abercynon Road has been closed between the junction of Ynysybwl Road and Park Street while emergency services deal with the incident.

The force said the road is expected to remain closed for a number of hours, with motorists advised to seek alternative routes and expect disruption in the area.

No further details about the collision or any injuries have been released at this stage.

Drivers travelling through Abercynon are being asked to avoid the area where possible and allow extra time for their journeys while the closure remains in place.

South Wales Police said: “Due to a serious collision, Abercynon Road is closed from the junction of Ynysybwl Road to Park Street, Abercynon. The road is likely to be closed for a number of hours.”

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
