    Second round of community grants opens in Newport

    A community development grant scheme for local initiatives has opened a second window for applications this week.
    Charities, social enterprises, voluntary sector organisations, community groups are eligible to apply for the scheme, which will fund activities that contribute to one of the following areas:
    • community building
    • crime prevention
    • breaking down barriers to opportunity
    • environmental education
    • Welsh culture preservation

    Grants are available for sports clubs through the scheme. More information on this is available on the Whatimpact website.

    The scheme is being administered by Whatimpact on behalf of the council.

    What you need to know

    The second application window will open on 22 September and close on 13 October. All activities funded through the scheme must be completed by February 2026.

    Support and further information

    Detailed criteria for applying for a grant is available on Whatimpact’s website.

    Whatimpact will be running support sessions where interested parties can find out more information about the scheme.

    There will be in-person sessions at the Riverfront Theatre on Wednesday 24 September, Friday 26 September and Tuesday 30 September.  All sessions will run from 4-6pm.

    Funding for the grant scheme has been provided by the UK government through their Shared Prosperity Fund.
