Rising star Madlen Forwood who is tipped to be “the next Katherine Jenkins” has been named as the final artist for this year’s Mayor of Neath Port Talbot’s Remembrance Concert.

Mumbles based soprano Madlen, who recently graduated from the Wales Academy of Voice and Dramatic Arts (WAVDA), has recently toured Belgium and Paris as a member of Mumbles A Cappella Choir appearing at St Bavo’s Cathedral, Ghent as well as at Saint-Sulpice and La Madeleine in Paris.

In 2022 Madlen sang, as part of the UWTSD Academy Voices Choir, alongside Katherine Jenkins, for Queen Elizabeth Il at the Royal Windsor Horse Show as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

She was also part of the Côr Ifor Bach choir that won the prestigious Côr Cymru S4C choral competition (2024) under the direction of Eilir Owen Griffiths.

Madlen is also the Swansea Royal Air Force Association’s official “Sweetheart”.

Tickets are now on sale for Mayor of Neath Port Talbot’s Remembrance Concert which takes place at the Princess Royal Theatre, Port Talbot, on Friday October 25th, 2024 (7pm).

Hosted by singer songwriter and TV and radio presenter Mal Pope, the evening will pay tribute to members of our Armed Forces Community.

It will also feature performances from The City of Swansea Pipe Band, 334 (Neath) Squadron RAF Air Cadets Band, the Royal British Legion Llanelli Band and the Valley Rock Voices choir. The concert will end with a Remembrance Service, a silence, and thousands of falling poppies.

Ticket prices: Standard £10.00; Concessions £8.00 (under 16, 60+, groups of 8 or more, Armed Forces Veterans, Armed Forces Reservists, Armed Forces Cadets, serving Armed Forces personnel). Go to www.npt.gov.uk/AFF (Welsh language version www.npt.gov.uk/GLA).

The Remembrance Concert is part of the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot’s Armed Forces festival. The Festival has received £5,800 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The Mayor of Neath Port Talbot, Cllr Matthew Crowley, said: “Madlen now completes a first class line-up for this year’s Remembrance Concert. Having seen videos of Madlen’s previous performances and hearing many people calling her ‘the next Katherine Jenkins’, I’m sure she is destined for a stellar career.

“Everyone on the programme is at the top of their game and the Remembrance Concert promises to be a fantastic evening, and a fitting tribute to honour the service of, and the sacrifices made, by those who have fought for our freedoms and the entire Armed Forces Community, past and present”.
