With a singing crowd, Sir Tom Jones wowed concert goes with a selection of songs from his new album ‘Surrounded by Time’ without forgetting the favourites ‘Delilah’ and ‘Green Green Grass of Home’.

The gates opened at 5pm and welcomed over 7000 people into the outdoor arena to enjoy an evening of top class talent. The excitement was building from early in the morning, with one excited fan who came the whole way from Scotland to see her favourite singer.

Tom Jones’ first concert in Wales of 2021 was organised by Orchard Live in partnership with Denbighshire Leisure Ltd and had crowds captivated at the Rhyl Events Arena.

Jamie Groves, Managing Director of Denbighshire Leisure Ltd, said “What a fantastic way to reintroduce live music to people after a difficult period. Sir Tom Jones had the whole crowd singing along, the atmosphere was electric. Warm up performer OTTO and support act Megan McKenna added a fantastic dynamic to the concert, and together with Sir Tom Jones made it an evening filled with incredible entertainment from start to finish that will never be forgotten. September has started with a bang for Denbighshire Leisure and we are now looking forward to planning and hosting many more live concerts like this in the future, with Orchard Live.”

The line-up delivered a variety of music from start to finish, with supporting acts OTTO and Megan McKenna who warmed up the crowd in preparation for the Welsh icon. OTTO kicked off the evening with an acoustic set before Megan McKenna brought a modern twist to the stage with a mix of original songs and covers including ‘This’ and Lionel Richie’s ‘All Night Long’.

Sir Tom entered in true Tom style, sparking the evening off with ‘What’s New Pussycat’ with the crowd going wild. He performed a mix of old and new, rhythm, rock and blues and had the audience singing and dancing along, before winding down the evening with new song ‘I’m Growing Old’ which paid tribute to his late wife, with not a dry eye in sight.

Connor Cupples of the Cardiff-based concert promoter Orchard Live said: “What a fantastic evening! We’ve had so many compliments from concert goers, who said the whole experience was fantastic. We cannot wait to bring more big name artists to North Wales in partnership with Denbighshire Leisure Ltd.”
