South Wales Fire and Rescue Service is continuing to tackle a significant wildfire in the Blaenavon area, with smoke from the blaze visible from up to 10 miles away.
The fire service has issued an update to reassure residents after receiving a large number of calls from concerned members of the public, particularly in the Abergavenny area where the smoke plume has been clearly visible.
Firefighters remain at the scene working to bring the incident under control.
In a statement, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews are continuing to deal with a significant wildfire in the Blaenavon area, and smoke from the incident can be seen up to 10 miles away.
“We are receiving a large number of calls for this incident and we want to reassure residents, particularly those in the Abergavenny area, that we are aware and we are dealing with it.
“Thank you for your concern.”
Residents affected by the smoke are being advised to keep their windows and doors closed to reduce the amount of smoke entering their homes.
The fire service has not yet released any information about the cause of the wildfire or whether any properties are at risk.
People are urged to avoid the area where possible and allow emergency services to continue their work safely.
