Spire Cardiff Hospital has received another excellent outcome from an inspection by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) – the second in a row since a visit in October 2020.

HIW completed the unannounced inspection in July 2022, reviewing the hospital for quality of patient experience; safe and effective care; and the quality of management and leadership.

In the inspection report, all patients surveyed rated the care and service provided at Spire Cardiff as either very good or good. Patients said they were comfortable and cared for in a professional and dignified manner. Processes were in place to help patients give their views on the care they had received at the hospital, and HIW found that improvements had been made as a result of that patient feedback. The inspection report noted that the patient food was of a high standard and the hospital accommodated any dietary requirements.

HIW found that Spire colleagues provided safe and effective care and that hospital management ensured robust governance arrangements and processes were in place to monitor the quality of care provided to patients. Tools were used to help ensure that there are sufficient numbers of appropriately trained staff to provide safe and effective care.

Spire Cardiff Hospital has 37 private en-suite rooms and facilities that include three main theatres, a daycase unit, an orthopaedic centre of excellence, outpatients and a physiotherapy suite. It offers outpatient, daycase and inpatient services for a range of specialties including paediatrics, orthopaedics, general surgery, ophthalmology, gynaecology, pain management, urology, breast service, ENT, cardiology and private GP services.

Spire Cardiff Hospital Director, Fiona Conway said: “Spire Cardiff Hospital continues to work hard to be a healthcare leader in South Wales when it comes to taking care of our patients.

“Our purpose is to make a positive difference to people’s lives through outstanding personalised care. This is delivered by friendly and professional colleagues all working together, and I’m incredibly proud of all their hard work each and every day. This report is recognition of that by our regulator Healthcare Inspectorate Wales.”
