St David’s Cardiff is set to host a unique, free ice cream lolly-making event from 20th – 21st August as part of its summer Lollydays celebrations – flavour options will include sweet, savoury, and specialities such as Welsh cake, gold dust, bacon, and even edible insects!

The Lolly-Pop-Up will open at St David’s exclusively for one weekend only where guests can create and fully customise their own bespoke lolly, using ice cream from award-winning Welsh brand Red Boat. The hands-on experience will offer a vast number of incredible toppings with ‘Hundreds and Thousands’ of flavours – sprinkle puns aside, there will be 142,000 topping combinations available at the Lolly-Pop-Up.

Visitors are invited to create the ice cream of their dreams, with regionally-sourced ingredients including tasty Welsh cakes, laverbread, and crushed Welsh rock candy.

Other toppings range from edible flowers, fruit, pretzels, sweets and cookie dough, to peanut butter cups, cereals, candy floss, fresh mint, and gold dust. For those looking for something a bit more unusual, options will also include bacon dust, ginger, Twiglets, chilli flakes, and edible insects. The ice-cream dipping will be topped off with a choice of chocolate, caramel, Biscoff, peanut butter, strawberry, honey and toffee sauces.

Guests can choose from a dairy or vegan ice cream base before dipping their lolly in their choice of chocolate and designing their own topping combinations.

The Lolly-Pop-Up event is free but will be ticketed as demand is expected to be high. Guests can book their free tickets from Monday 25th July by visiting the St David’s Cardiff website.

Helen Morgan, Centre Director of St David’s Cardiff, commented: “The Lolly-Pop-Up event is different to anything we’ve done before and we’re so excited to showcase it within St David’s as part of our summer-long Lollydays celebration.

“The Lolly-Pop-Up will offer a mix of fantastic flavours and toppings, so they’ll look as amazing as they taste and will no doubt go down an absolute storm.”

During the summer at St David’s, guests will also be able to see the stunning Lollydays installation at the shopping centre, comprising of five giant ice-lollies and over 6,000 flowers. The 40-metre-long display is suspended in mid-air above the Hayes Arcade within St David’s, overlooked by a floral selfie arch from the upper level of the Grand Arcade. Guests who snap a selfie and tag @StDavidsCardiff on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram will be entered into a competition to win £500 of shopping vouchers.
