A team of dedicated charity fundraisers donned sunblock and hiking boots to successfully complete a demanding 100km trek across the Sahara Desert, raising over £43,000 for St David’s Hospice.

The 14-strong team undertook the challenge to raise vital funds for the hospice, which provides essential care for people across Conwy, Gwynedd, and Anglesey living with terminal illnesses.

Navigating the Moroccan part of the desert, the group walked across hot sand, tackling formidable obstacles including ancient riverbeds, towering sand dunes, and intense heat to complete the gruelling route.

Among the trekkers was Sophie Morris, a long-time supporter and dedicated fundraiser for St David’s Hospice.

“I undertook the challenge to raise money for St David’s Hospice, a charity that I have supported for many years, including organising, running, and more recently becoming quiz master for the North Wales Business Club Quiz, as well as taking on other challenges over the years,” Sophie said.

She added: “Although I’ve been fortunate not to need the hospice’s services personally, I’ve known several people who have, and I am always in awe of the care they provide. Their ability to bring comfort, structure, and guidance to individuals and families at their most difficult moments is nothing short of remarkable.”

Shannon Kelly-Jones from the St David’s Hospice fundraising team praised the group for their incredible commitment.

“I want to thank every one of our Sahara Trek participants for raising an extraordinary £43,000 to date for St David’s Hospice. Their commitment means so much to the patients and families we support,” said Shannon.

“We’re also hugely grateful to our challenge partner, Adventurous Ewe, for their expertise and leadership throughout the challenge. This remarkable achievement is a true team effort.”
