The Youth Work Excellence Awards are an opportunity to recognize and celebrate outstanding Youth Work projects, Youth Workers and those involved in Youth Work across Wales. The Welsh Government has celebrated excellence in Youth Work since 1993 and the awards are now in their 27th year.

Ceredigion Youth Farmers Club was successful in winning the ‘Demonstrating Excellence in Partnership Planning and delivery at a local level’ category, bringing home the award to Ceredigion. The awards were premiered on 09 December via Youtube and although the ceremony was held online, Youth Workers and organisations across Wales tuned in to celebrate excellent practice over the last 12 months.

Ceredigion YFC was nominated by Ceredigion Youth Service for their outstanding response and contribution to rural communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The judging panel was impressed by the scale and ambition of their partnering project, as well as the enthusiasm and dedication that was clear from the evidence provided. The panel felt the YFC’s achievements were exceptional given the rural environment and hard to reach population. The judging panel stated: “Young people from YFC demonstrated professionalism and built trust with many vulnerable people that will last a lifetime – the impact was fantastic and they made a huge contribution to community wellbeing.”

Anne Jones, Ceredigion YFC County organiser said: “This award reflects the true meaning of the YFC when members and clubs came together to support their communities and assisted and protected and the residents of Ceredigion during the pandemic.”

Councillor Catrin Miles, Cabinet Member for Schools, Lifelong Learning & Skills, Support and Intervention said, “It comes as no surprise to me that Ceredigion Young Farmers Club has won an award at this year’s National Youth Excellence Awards, which is a tremendous achievement. The awards evening which celebrated outstanding Youth Work from across the Wales was a fantastic opportunity for the organisation to receive recognition for their work in Ceredigion that is with young people and for young people during the pandemic.”
