Two Gwynedd schools have had success in the final round of a national competition held by the Books Council of Wales.
The task this year was for year 3 and 4 pupils to discuss a book of their choice from the reading list and present a performance to attract others to read the book.
The judges this year were the presenter, Mari Lovegreen and Llinos Penfold. Following the keen competition, they both decided that the group from Ysgol Felinheli deserved the top spot with Ysgol y Gelli a strong second. Huge congratulations to both schools. Ysgol y Gelli also came second back in 2018.
Ysgol Felinheli chose to discuss Llyfr Adar Mawr y Plant, by Onwy Gomer, and Ysgol y Gelli chose Cadi a’r Celtiaid by Bethan Gwanas.
When discussing Ysgol Felinheli’s presentation Mari Lovegreen said: “Brilliant! An extremely strong start that demanded our attention straight away. This felt like an advertisement from beginning to end and makes me wanting to read the book. A strong and amazing performance, and it was good to see some comedy. Well done you!”
Councillor Gareth Thomas, who’s responsible for libraries on Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet, said: “It’s fantastic to see that Gwynedd schools have had success one again in this national competition. Huge congratulations to you.
“Despite Covid, it’s good to see that the competition has been successful within the schools and that our pupils are able to continue to gain skills, such as expressing opinions. Thank you very much to the Councils’ Library Services for coordinating the competition.”
