Players at rugby union side Guernsey Raiders are starting their new season on the front foot with expert coaching from former British and Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton and his team at SW7 Academy.

The National League 2 East side has formed a new partnership with the team at SW7 to provide them with elite level strength and conditioning training as they head into another year of fixtures at a semi-professional level.

SW7 Academy is an online training platform created to help maximise athletic performance through advanced strength and conditioning programmes and was set up by former Wales and British Irish Lions rugby captain, Sam Warburton, and his business partner Josh Davies.

With some of its players already signed up to and using the SW7 Academy app to access elite level training support ahead of the 2023/24 season, it was only a matter of time until the wider team decided to follow suit.

Now the entire Guernsey Raiders squad is benefitting from weekly training programmes created by SW7’s Head of Performance, Chris Tombs, to help the players achieve their full fitness potential as their next season playing in the league’s level 4 division gets underway.

Director of Rugby at Guernsey Raisers, Jordan Reynolds, said the club has already benefitted greatly from its partnership with SW7 Academy, and that the team is firmly on course to achieve its goals to build better athletes and significantly improve player performance.

Jordan said: “We have strong ambitions to become a competitive club in the National 2 East League and, with the help of Chris Tombs and the SW7 team, are confident this can be achieved. The whole process has been seamless so far and the weekly programmes provided are hugely beneficial and easy to access via the app, which has really helped our transitions.”

“Chris is in regular contact with us, which has really helped us to make any alterations with ease, and the monthly reports we’ve received have allowed our coaching team to better monitor sessions too. The SW7 Academy programme is definitely worth exploring if you are looking for a cost-effective strength and conditioning programme.”

On its new partnership with Guernsey Raiders, SW7 Academy founder Sam Warburton said it had been a great opportunity to work with the squad and support them in pursuing their goals at the start of the players returning to the National League 2 East this year.

Sam said: “We’re thrilled to join forces with Guernsey Raiders and be providing the players with a strength and conditioning programme to help them grow and excel in the sport they love as they enter the new season.

“Competing at a semi-professional level can be competitive, not to mention hugely intense for players combining responsibilities both on and off the pitch, and our expert team has therefore adapted the weekly programmes we offer with this level of play in mind.”

“We’ve really enjoyed working with the team so far to help enhance their physical abilities as well as build their strength and improve endurance, and are really looking forward to seeing what this team can achieve,” Sam added.

SW7 Academy was established in 2019 after Sam and Josh identified a space in the market for athletes competing at all levels and in all kinds of sporting environments to gain access to the kind of elite level coaching and expertise normally reserved for professionals.

The Academy’s Team Memberships provide elite level, strength and conditioning programmes to teams and individuals across the world.

Its online training app, developed by the SW7 team, also offers the same level of strength and conditioning coaching to anyone wishing to join the Academy virtually, who get to benefit from a full range of training programmes, video demonstrations, a personalised nutrition programme and more as a result.
