Funding worth close to £330,000 is helping to boost high street businesses across Swansea.

Businesses in the city centre, Gowerton, Winch Wen and Morriston are among those benefiting from Swansea Council grants through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

Funding that’s been made available to 31 high street businesses includes pre-start grants, website development grants, growth grants and carbon reduction grants.

Among the businesses benefiting from growth grants are Grandad Needs His Medicine –  a sandwich shop based on Oxford Street; XP Gaming Bar on Castle Street; the No 18 Vegan Café Bar on Brynymor Road; the Brew and Bloom Café at the Forge Fach Community Centre in Clydach, and the Malu Coffee and Espresso Bar on Woodfield Street in Morriston.

Website development grants have been awarded to businesses including Swansea Market-based Bowla – a Bowl with a Roll, and Dewkes – a pet shop based in Mumbles.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “Businesses throughout Swansea do so much to create jobs for local people while adding character and vibrancy to our high streets.

“They’re at the heart of the local economy, so it’s important the council does all it can to support them.

“We’re delighted to have awarded grants to so many high street businesses through the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

“This is part of our commitment to boost the economies of communities throughout Swansea while assisting as many of our businesses as possible.”

Businesses to have received carbon reduction grants include Colwyn Fish Bar in Winch Wen and Cheers Wine Merchants in West Cross.

Growth grants have been awarded to businesses including Mumbles Dental House in Pontarddulais, Frozziyo on College Street in the city centre, and Yummy Bears on Sterry Road in Gowerton.
