A new community facility that will be used by all ages has been officially opened in Penclawdd.
The Community Shed at Graig y Coed playing fields has been built by volunteers with funding support from Swansea Council and the ward member’s allowance, as well as a contribution from Llanrhidian Higher Community Council.
It complements the Graig y Coed Woodland Project which has seen land nearby transformed into a community woodland.
There are two new units to the rear of the playing field changing rooms that make up the hub.
One has been fitted out as a workshop and has joined Swansea’s ever expanding network of Men’s Sheds.
The other serves as both a tea area and a classroom that will be used as a base for local primary school pupils to explore the woodland.
It will also be available for other community groups.
Swansea Council Leader Rob Stewart said: “It is great to see so many people come together to get The Community Hub up and running and I’d congratulate all involved in this fantastic initiative.
“I’m proud that Swansea Council has played a part in supporting this hub and also in developing the community woodland.”
Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, Andrew Williams, said: “This is a very welcome investment in Penclawdd.
“What is really exciting is the hub will benefit residents of all ages. Primary school pupils will use it as a forest school to explore the woodland and older residents now have this great hub to socialise at, meet new people and learn new skills should they wish.”
