The Swansea Council team that organises the annual Wales Airshow is planning to celebrate the event in an alternative way this year.

Unfortunately, this hugely popular event in the Swansea events calendar won’t be taking place this year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

    Virtual Wales Airshow

However, rather than having a gap in the calendar, the team has developed a digital celebration of the Wales Airshow on Saturday, July 4, from 11am-5pm.

Wales Airshow – A digital celebration #AtHome is a virtual event that will showcase the very best highlights from some of the many display teams that have attended and displayed over Swansea Bay.

They include the Chinook, the RAF Tutor, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the Tigers Parachute Display Team and the magnificent Red Arrows.

Robert Francis-Davies, the council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “Everyone loves the Wales Airshow. It’s a highlight of our annual events calendar and last year attracted more than 250,000 people.

“Our Cultural Services Events and Marketing teams were disappointed that this summer’s event could not go ahead as planned but were determined that the public should enjoy an alternative event to mark the occasion.

“They’re now planning a Wales Airshow celebration which people can enjoy from the comfort of their own homes.

“The digital event, in association with car dealership Ron Skinner & Sons, will consist of highlights of the different air displays from previous years.

“It will bring back many fond memories for those who attended and reaching out to new audiences for future years.”

The Wales Airshow – A digital celebration #AtHome is a family friendly event and there’ll be related children’s activities leading up to the event with word searches, quizzes, plane-making and colour-in sheets, and some great competitions too.
