26th October was a life changing night for lucky bingo lover Karen Carpanini at Mecca Bingo on Carmarthen Road, Swansea, when she won a whopping £50,000 jackpot on the National Bingo Game, just ten days before her retirement.

Mum of two, Karen, 60, has been a nurse at Morriston Hospital for 42 years and officially retired from work this Saturday (5th November).

A regular customer at Mecca Swansea, she began playing bingo at the age of 18 at the bingo club in nearby Sketty, when Mecca was known as Top Rank, and her dad was a bingo caller there for 30 years.

Now a loyal player at Mecca Swansea, Karen says she loves the ‘homey atmosphere’ of the club, where people can enjoy a social night out in a friendly environment.

While Karen is still planning how she will spend the £50,000, the timing couldn’t be better! To celebrate this huge win, the club held a special party in Karen’s honour by inviting her friends down and presenting her with a bouquet of flowers and bubbly. The Mecca Swansea club even decked itself out in special decorations and provided all their customers a free main game in Karen’s honour!

When asked how it feels to win the big jackpot, Karen said: “It’s surreal – it hasn’t sunk in yet!”.

Kim Jones, general manager at Mecca Bingo Swansea, added: “It’s so exciting when someone calls house on the National Bingo Game. We’re absolutely delighted for Karen! She is living proof that you can win big at Mecca Bingo. The atmosphere on the night was amazing, with a special party held in her honour!”

Alastair Stewart, business development manager at the National Bingo Game said: “We are thrilled for Mecca’s lucky National Bingo Game £50,000 Jackpot winner in Swansea. What an amazing way for Karen to start her retirement and celebrate.”
