A nine-year-old Swansea schoolboy has completed an inspirational 30-day running challenge, raising more than £2,000 for Kids Cancer Charity and capturing the hearts of the community.

Osian Window, a pupil at Dunvant Primary School and a member of Dunvant RFC’s Under 10s, set out to run 1km every day for 30 days.

What began as an ambitious goal soon grew into an extraordinary effort, with Osian clocking up over 100km in total – braving the winter elements to keep his promise.

Osian completed his challenge on Saturday (January 17), finishing with a determined 5km run that saw him pass through Dunvant RFC during half-time of the first team’s match against Aberystwyth.

Supporters, players and coaches gathered to cheer him on, giving the young runner a warm and emotional reception as he raced past the clubhouse. Osian was also supported by a crowd which gathered outside the shopping precinct in Killay as he ran by.

Originally hoping to raise £100, Osian smashed his target within days, with donations flooding in from family, friends, teammates, and members of the wider Swansea community.

Osian said: “I wanted to help children who are going through something really hard.

“Some days the weather was horrible, but I didn’t want to give up.

“It felt amazing to finish my last run and see everyone cheering. Thank you to everyone who donated!”

Catherine, Osian’s mum, said: “We are unbelievably proud of Osian.

“He showed incredible determination throughout the whole challenge, especially on the days when it would have been so easy to stay indoors.

“The support he’s received from the community and from Dunvant RFC has been overwhelming.”

Mike Arnold, of Dunvant RFC’s Junior Section, said: “Osian is a brilliant example of what our club stands for – community spirit, hard work and looking out for others.

“The commitment he has shown over the past 30 days is remarkable for someone so young, and we were honoured to cheer him on during his final run.

“He’s an inspiration to his teammates and to all of us at Dunvant RFC.”
