New designs have been unveiled for two further wheeled sports projects that will bring major improvements to facilities in Gowerton and Ynystawe.
A new BMX-focused facility at the Elba sports complex in Gowerton and an upgraded skatepark at Ynystawe are the latest schemes to progress as part of Swansea Council’s £3m investment in wheeled sports across the city.
The designs – developed by specialist firm Curve Studio following extensive consultation – were shared at a recent update meeting with local residents and wheeled sports users.
Planning and procurement for both projects are scheduled for early 2026 with construction anticipated to start next summer.
These projects form part of a wider programme that will mean most Swansea residents are no more than two miles away from a new or upgraded wheeled sports site.

Cllr Andrew Stevens, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: “Skateboarding, BMXing and other wheeled sports are incredibly popular in Swansea, and these new designs for Gowerton and Ynystawe show the continued progress we’re making across the city.
“Our £3m investment is delivering high-quality facilities shaped by local consultation, ensuring they reflect what users themselves have told us they want from modern wheeled sports spaces.
“This is about more than new ramps or refurbished surfaces – it’s about creating safe, inspiring places that help young people stay active, build confidence and connect with their communities.
“With Curve Studio’s expertise and the enthusiasm we’ve seen from local residents, these projects will make a real difference. We’re committed to keeping people updated as plans move forward and would encourage everyone to stay involved as the next stages take shape.”
Work is also due to begin shortly on a new street plaza style wheeled sports facility at Victoria Park.
Further contracts will be awarded soon for improvements at Mynydd Newydd in Penlan and the Phoenix Centre in Townhill, adding to completed upgrades at Coed Bach in Pontarddulais and Melin Mynach in Gorseinon.
A small cycling facility is planned for Blaenymaes, along with a new pump track in Bishopston, the refurbishment of the existing track at Clyne Valley, and a new junior pump track in Gorseinon.
Additional sites to benefit will also soon be announced.
The investment is supported by ward member contributions, the community investment fund, community and town councils, and the Welsh Government through Active Travel funding.
