The swimming pool at Western Leisure Centre, Caerau Road, Ely will re-open this weekend (Saturday June 5th) after its long closure due to Government COVID restrictions.  Improvement works on the pool have been taking place in recent months in conjunction with Cardiff Council.  The investment has seen interactive wall panels installed in the paddling pool, replacing of air ventilation units and work on the hot water plant that heats the pool.

Matt Simmons, Manager at Western Leisure Centre, said:

“We are pleased to see this work completed in time to welcome our customers back after the lifting of restrictions.   This weekend sees we have Swim for Fitness and Family Swim sessions 10 – 4pm on Saturday and Sunday at a £1 for up to four people!  We can’t wait for the local community to join us and explore our new Health and Fitness offering at the heart of the community in West Cardiff.”

The upgraded pool facility will complement Better Cardiff’s recent investment in the gym and fitness studio at Western Leisure Centre. This investment has seen:

    • The redecoration of the gym
    • Extending the gym to add 11 new stations
    • A new fitness studio
    • An increase in group cycling spaces
    • Meeting room space with multimedia resources

Commenting on the improvements at Western Leisure Centre, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Peter Bradbury said:

“It’s great to see Cardiff’s leisure facilities open again after so many months, and to be able to re-open the pool at my local leisure centre. With a new fitness studio, and an extended gym area as well as the pool, the centre really is looking fantastic and if they haven’t already, I’d encourage everybody to support their local facility as they look to get active again.”
