The evolution of casino bonus offers

If you’re an avid Slots player, then there’s no doubt that you’re already familiar with the casino bonuses and offers that are available at many online casinos. From free spins, multipliers and exclusive offers when you sign up for a gaming account, there are many casino bonuses to look out for.

But it hasn’t always been this easy to bag yourself a couple of free spins, and over the years, both online and land-based casinos have offered a wide range of evolving incentives that we don’t tend to see today.

Read on to discover how casino bonuses have evolved, as well as some of the best that are available today!

    The bonus named Blackjack

The game of Blackjack hasn’t always gone by this name – and it’s actually an outdated offer than led to this name being generated. Once known as Twenty-One, the game became known as Blackjack in the 20th century, after having dominated casinos during the 17th century. The name Blackjack was formed sometime during World War I, when many casinos offered the bonus that any players who won with the Ace of Spades and a ‘Black’ Jack – the Jack of Spades or Clubs – would win even more lucrative payouts.

The aim to get the “Black Jack” was now established, and the name stuck. However, once casinos had picked back up in popularity, the bonus was retired.

    Online casinos

The original concept for online casino bonuses was simple. The player would deposit a small amount of money into their gaming account, and they will then receive bonus credit in addition, to spend towards gameplay. This would either be equal to the amount that they’d deposited, or if they were lucky – a little bit more.

Since the first online casino opened in 1996, the rivalry between sites has grown, as more and more dominate the industry. With the demand for online casinos higher than ever, many began to offer generous bonuses to players upon sign-up. In the late 1990s to the early 2000s, the offers and bonuses were a lot more lucrative than those offered today, but this wasn’t sustainable, as players could take advantage of the bonus, and sometimes not even know what exactly they were signing up for.

Now, with more regulations and safety regarding many aspects of the online casino, bonuses remain but arguably less generous, although those extra few spins can still make all the difference to your gameplay.

    Modern day bonuses

Nowadays, it’s much easier to receive a casino bonus. Sign up for an online gaming account, and casino promotions and offers will go straight to your inbox, so you’ll never miss out on the latest generous online bonus again!

For example, if you already play casino games on Sky Vegas, look out for exclusive bonuses for members, and make use of any free games on offer.

Some examples of online casino bonuses you can find today include:

    • Sign-up bonus
    • No deposit bonus
