Denbighshire County Council is currently undertaking works to convert Llys Anwyl on Churton Street into accessible apartments available for social rent.

Llys Anwyl, once home to the Rhyl tax office was purchased by the Council to redevelop the site into accessible apartments with either one or two bedrooms for older people, to meet demand identified for accommodation in the town.

Work has now begun on the building which was vacant for years before the council made the purchase to return it to a productive use. A range of energy efficient improvements are being made to the building for the benefit of residents.

The property is expected to be completed in 2023 and will be let by Denbighshire Housing.

Cllr Rhys Thomas, Lead member for Housing and Communities said: “I am pleased that the Council have been able to purchase Llys Anwyl and progress with plans to carry out development works to bring it back to a productive use.

“This project will benefit many individuals including those with mobility issues looking for accessible apartments in Rhyl.

“We will continue to work on providing suitable homes for citizens in the County”.

Contractors Pave Aways Limited were successfully appointed to undertake the project.

Pave Aways Managing Director Steven Owen said: “We’ll be using suppliers and sub-contractors in our supply chain wherever possible, bringing an economic boost to North Wales. We will be hosting a Meet the Buyer event for those businesses interested in working with us on this project very soon.

“We will also be providing training opportunities and support to local organisations and charities during our contract.”
