THE Red Dragon Centre, Cardiff Bay’s longstanding indoor entertainment venue, has welcomed the renovation of one of its most iconic tenants, the ODEON IMAX cinema.
The new-look cinema opened its doors on June 28, meaning visitors can now see some of the big new blockbusters on the new screen from F1 available now to Superman from July 11.
The only IMAX screen in south Wales, the ODEON space received a landmark investment to upgrade to the IMAX’s most advanced cinema experience, IMAX with Laser.
The upgrade sets itself apart with its 4K laser projection system featuring a new optical engine and a suite of proprietary IMAX technologies that deliver crystal clear IMAX laser projection, increased resolution, deeper contrast as well as the most distinct colours ever available on-screen.
The investment includes a multi-channel audio system that delivers greater dynamic range and precision for the ultimate in audio immersion, contributing to a superior entertainment experience from the ground-up, exclusively to IMAX screens.
Emma Constantinou, Marketing Manager at The Red Dragon Centre, said: “We’re thrilled to see the launch of the brand-new ODEON IMAX with Laser here at The Red Dragon Centre. This upgrade has been eagerly anticipated and brings an exciting new dimension to the visitor experience – just in time for the summer holidays. It’s a fantastic addition that makes a day out at the Centre even more special.
“It’s been a strong year so far for both the Centre and ODEON, and we’re proud to be celebrating this major moment with the ODEON team. It’s another great reason for people to visit and enjoy everything the Centre has to offer.”
The custom-designed theatres host stadium-style seating for clear vantage points at every seat, as well as custom screens for the brightest images.
In addition to these enhancements, the IMAX with Laser system is linked to IMAX’s 24/7/365 Network Operations Centre and features built-in image calibration and audio tuning that ensure the same optimum performance show after show.
The Red Dragon Centre is home to a multitude of interactive, lifestyle and food and drink venues including ODEON Cinema, the home of Wales’ only IMAX screen, and the Hollywood Bowl which have been key Centre attractions since the beginning.
The Centre hosts a range of additional brands that make up an intrinsic part of the entertainment and dining experience, including Grosvenor Casino, Five Guys, Buffet Tonight, Volcano, and Zaika.
The Centre is also the site of the Capital FM South Wales studio, which was formerly Red Dragon FM, as well as Heart FM. Today, you’ll find the likes of Josh and Kally broadcasting their Capital Drive Show live from there every weekday.
