Hundreds of entertainment packs to be delivered to Bridgend homes

Homelessness charity Emmaus South Wales is delivering entertainment packs to local households to help provide some light relief during the coronavirus lockdown.

The charity’s ‘Rainbow Packs’, which are worth between £30 – £150, will consist of items such as games, books, puzzles and gaming consoles.

The charity has created age specific packs and is offering them to households for free, however, will include a donation slip for anyone who wishes to pay what they can afford.

Emmaus South Wales is a charity that provides a home, work and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. The charity operates a large social enterprise across five shops selling donated furniture, household goods, electrical items and much more.

Commenting on why the charity is creating entertainment packs, Marc Roberts, Head of Retail at Emmaus South Wales, said:

“At Emmaus, we understand how difficult social exclusion can be for individuals and taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Now more than ever, there is a need to engage in enjoyable activities at home and we wanted to help provide local households with some light relief during this unprecedented time. We hope that our Rainbow Packs will help spread a little joy to the community and would like to thank anyone who kindly donates to our charity when they receive a pack.”

The majority of funds Emmaus South Wales needs to survive are generated through its five second-hand shops in Bridgend, Cowbridge, Maesteg and Porthcawl. All of the shops are temporarily closed due to the coronavirus situation, however the support provided to the charity’s residents continues.

Without that income, Emmaus South Wales is facing a shortfall and the longer the closure continues, the more difficult the situation becomes. Every donation received from a Rainbow Pack will go towards ensuring the charity can provide support to formerly homeless people now and in the future.
