Thousands raised at Lord’s Taveners Wales annual charity golf day

The winning team of the Lord's Taveners Golf Day 2023 with Chairman, Andrew Gibson
THE LORD’S TAVENERS WALES has raised over £5,000 from their longstanding tradition of hosting an Ian Spratling Memorial Golf Day at the prestigious Royal Porthcawl Golf Club.

Teams from across South Wales and other parts of the UK came together on for the event held in memory of ex-Chairman of the Lord’s Taverners Wales Ian Spratling. Welcoming golfers every year, they raise money for their charity which provides access to sports for disabled and disadvantaged children.

The Lord’s Taverners provides both direct and indirect support to young people, disadvantaged either through circumstance or disability, to participate in sport through events like these.

Kicking off with a 1pm shotgun start, the teams of 4 took on the 18-hole course which was followed by a 2-course meal and presentation.

The day was a huge success, and a particular highlight for many being the ‘Beat the Pro’ segment with Royal Porthcawl pro Peter Evans as many tried their hand at taking on the PGA Professional.

Andrew Gibson, Chairman of the Lord’s Taveners Wales, said: “The Ian Spratling Memorial Golf Day is a landmark day in our calendar, and one we look forward to every year. It was wonderful to have so many people come together and raise an incredible amount of money for such a worthy cause.

“We are continually grateful to Royal Porthcawl Golf Club for affording us the opportunity to use their fantastic course and facilities and to our loyal supporters for their generosity. I would also like to once again congratulate Martin Hopkins for their triumphant efforts in securing the winning trophy.”

Founded in 1950, Lord’s Taveners aims to empower and positively impact the lives of young people facing the challenges of inequality. This includes hosting their community cricket programme Wicketz, regularly donating specially adapted minibuses, sports wheelchairs, sensory and play equipment facilities to the community and recycling sports kits across the globe.
