Cardiff B Corp four-day week environmental consultancy Tyler Grange has just celebrated its 15th anniversary.
Experts in arboriculture, ecology, landscape planning, Blue-Green Infrastructure and landscape design, it works with UK leading architects, housebuilders and developers to ensure that projects are delivered with optimal benefits to people and the environment.
Commercial, social and environmental highlights for the Penhill Road firm, during this time, include invoices to-date totalling £56million, over 1million trees being surveyed, more than 2500 bat boxes being specified, and planning permission being delivered for in excess of 15,000 new social houses.
The consultancy has also helped to deliver over 3,000 hectares of new green infrastructure and public open spaces in the UK – that’s the equivalent to around 20 Hyde Parks – as well as enjoying 135 non-working Fridays and donating over 8,000 volunteering hours to its local communities and charity organisations. It’s also brewed and gifted some 6,500 cans of its low carbon beer, which is enough to fill a small swimming pool.
Founded in 2010 – the brainchild of four colleagues who, at the time, worked for a large environmental consultancy – Tyler Grange has grown from a small team of co-founders, who all remain with the business.
As the consultancy’s client base grew, so did its headcount and nationwide office locations. Today, Tyler Grange has seven offices – in London, Manchester, Bristol, Cirencester, Cardiff, Birmingham and Exeter and Leeds and an employee headcount of over 100. It’s made 19 office moves in total, over the 15 years, including spells in a police cell in Stroud and an old pub in Macclesfield. The consultancy is also at the forefront of the mandatory new Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) regime and leads on major development projects and knowledge sharing.
During its 15 years of operation, Tyler Grange has always been committed to the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, accountability and employee wellbeing. It was amongst the first 60 companies to take part in the UK four-day week pilot in 2022 and, at the same time, gained B Corp certification. Both initiatives ensured the firm remained rooted to its dearly held values – and ensured its team is happier and more productive, and the company more profitable.
In preparation for, and during, its 15th anniversary year, Tyler Grange has also been recognised as one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work for two consecutive years, is a member of the Better Business Network, supports the Better Business Act and is an accredited Living Wage employer. It also secured B Corp recertification, after first achieving it in 2022. Recertification is required every three years to maintain B Corp Certification.
Tyler Grange co-founder and managing director Jon Berry said of the milestone: “15 years ago the name Tyler Grange didn’t mean anything. And that was okay. We wanted to create a business that made a name for itself. A decade and a half on, and we’ve achieved so much. Now the name does mean something.
“We’ve always adhered to a strong set of values, and created a place where people feel safe to be their authentic selves, to make mistakes and to learn. Whilst our values have certainly evolved over the last 15 years, they have always influenced how we operate as a business – and will continue to do so. We’ve created something very special here, because of them, and they will continue to guide us, and the consultancy, as we continue to evolve and grow over the next decade and a half.”
