Wales gears up for the Six Nations 2025: could the rugby revitalise some of our biggest cities?

As any rugby union fan will tell you, the Six Nations is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the rugby calendar – and Welsh fans, in particular, are gearing up for what they hope to be a barnstorming return to form.

The Six Nations 2025 kicks off at the end of January and carries on all the way through to the middle of March. It’s a nice little pick-me-up for any sports fans who are bristling with the winter cold and want to warm up with some world-class rugby action!

After a disappointing run during last year’s tournament, Wales are looking to turn things around in a major way by the end of March. Also, there are hints that the Six Nations could even revitalise interest in Wales as a tourist destination this winter!

    It’s all about the passion

This year, Wales will be playing two home games in Cardiff across the tournament – but this doesn’t mean that there won’t be more fun and action taking place across our major cities.

Rugby fans online are already gearing up by checking out statistics and fixtures while playing a few rugby themed mobile slots and checking out the latest odds changes – across Wales, regardless of how the national side performs, rugby remains a passionate interest for many.

In fact, one of the major draws for rugby fans looking to explore Wales will be the explosion of ‘fanzones’ in some of our biggest cities. Despite the fact that Wales is only hosting two of this year’s games at home, this is not preventing clubs and venues from coast to coast from putting on a show.

We recently discussed DEPOT in Cardiff putting on a huge fanzone experience to kick off the event at its start towards the end of January. For rugby fans, this means big-screen action, live music, street food and more.

It’s this genuine passion for rugby and the nationwide celebration of the sport as Wales’s national pastime that will help to encourage other fans from overseas to explore what we have to offer.

Could fan interest turn Wales’s fortunes around?

Increased interest in the country as a celebration capital for rugby this year might, fans hope, have a knock-on effect for the Wales side as they gear up for another year of locking horns with Europe’s best players.

Losses to the likes of England and Scotland over the years haven’t failed to spur on the national side. If anything, 2025’s A-team are looking more enthusiastic and more determined than ever – especially given the final scores that transpired at 2024’s Six Nations.

Wales came a regrettable last in the 2024 standings, with a total of four points from their five games played, and a loss in each. Ireland came away the resounding winner of the tournament, with a five-point lead over France in second, and a six-point stretch ahead of England in third.

However, this is far from deterring Welsh fans – and indeed the players set to pick up and run this Six Nations. You only have to look at Wales’s record to see that, in time, the side will bounce back – and it’s this faith that’s helping to inspire home fans and rugby tourists.

Wales have scored 12 Grand Slams over the years, going back to long before the tournament was even known as the Six Nations. The side’s most recent Grand Slam came in 2019, after a drought of seven years – meaning that you can always rely on the Welsh side to bounce back.

The Welsh team have won this championship a staggering 28 times since 1893, so there’s always faith that they’ll get back to the glory days.

    The capital of European fun?

We love to put on a show regardless of how we do in the national game – and this is hopefully going to help put Wales across as the capital of fun and sporting celebrations for the year ahead.

By 16th March, we will all know for certain how well Wales have performed at this year’s Six Nations. Can they turn around a disappointing performance at the 2024 games? Will they win more fans this year than ever before? You don’t have to win matches to inspire people – but at the same time, bringing home a championship for the first time since 2021 will certainly be welcome!
