People heading out to Bonfire Night events across Wales this week (Wednesday, 5 November) are being urged to prepare for wet and windy weather, with heavy rain and flood warnings in place.
The Met Office has warned of persistent rain and gusty winds, particularly in southern parts of the country, while Natural Resources Wales has several flood warnings currently in force.
After a day of unsettled weather, heavier downpours are expected to move into south Wales by dusk, affecting firework displays and community bonfire events.
The Met Office says: “A cloudy and often wet day is ahead with heavier rain likely to arrive in south Wales by this evening. It will remain very mild with winds easing later.” Temperatures could reach up to 16°C, though damp and misty conditions will make it feel cooler.
Overnight, the rain is forecast to continue, spreading northwards with hill fog and misty coastal conditions developing. The mild theme continues, with lows of around 10°C.
A yellow weather warning remains in place for south Wales, covering areas including Cardiff, Swansea, the Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Newport, Carmarthenshire, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Powys.
The warning states that early rain is expected to turn heavier and more persistent during Tuesday afternoon, before gradually easing early on Wednesday morning ahead of Bonfire night.
Looking ahead, the unsettled spell will continue through the rest of the week. Wednesday is expected to stay cloudy and wet, with occasional heavy bursts of rain, though it may turn a little drier later in the day.
Thursday and Friday will remain mild but changeable, with showers or longer spells of rain, interspersed with the odd bright spell. By Saturday, conditions are likely to turn drier, brighter and fresher, offering a more pleasant end to the week.
Anyone attending Bonfire Night displays is advised to bring waterproof clothing and footwear, and to check local event updates before travelling, as some may be affected by the weather.
