Injections with various remedies are at the peak of popularity. But do all patients who use the injectable services of modern cosmetology know what is administered into their skin. Among all, Botox and dermal fillers enjoy the biggest popularity among men and women worldwide.

So, let us puzzle out what dermal fillers are. What do they consist of? Are they safe? What aesthetic problems can these injectable treatments solve?

    What are Dermal Fillers?

Modern facial fillers are liquid, transparent plastic, and viscous gels that are administered in the skin with the help of a syringe and fine needle. They can be permanent (means that they can remain in the derma for a few years), semi-permanent (they remain in the skin tissues for around 2 years), and non-permanent (dissolve within 12 months or so).

Nowadays, cosmetologists advise their patients on non-permanent injectable fillers most frequently as they are perfectly safe and provide beautiful natural results.

What Types of Dermal Fillers are there on the Market?

We will discuss just temporary or non-permanent fillers. So, they can be of 3 basic types, depending on their active substance: hyaluronic acid (HA), calcium hydroxide, or poly-l-lactic acid.

Hyaluronic acid dermal injectables are leaders on the market, and there are dozens of brands that produce these types of fillers on the market. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is found in many human tissues and comprises the matrix of the skin. It is responsible for holding the frame of the skin, producing collagen and elastin, and moisturizing the tissues.

Among the most popular brands, we may single out Juvederm, Belotero, Filorga, Restylane, Saypha, Revolax, Stylage, and so on. Dermal fillers cost for these brands vary from 40 euros to 600 euros, so you will be able to find dermal filler suitable for every budget.

Fillers with calcium hydroxide are presented with a single brand called Radiesse. This ingredient is found in the human bones, so the filler is bio combinable with the human tissues. It helps to return the youthful appearance, smooth fine wrinkles, and replenish natural volume loss by boosting the inner rejuvenating processes and production of the own elastin and collagen.

Sculptra injectable treatment with poly-l-lactic acid is similar in its action to Radiesse. The filler does not add volume but fights aging changes like fine lines and wrinkles by relaunching inner rejuvenating processes.

    What do Dermal Fillers Do?

Dermal filler injections are basically aimed at solving aging skin concerns, restoring a more youthful appearance, and enhancing natural beauty. Poly-l-lactic and calcium hydroxide wrinkle fillers can just smooth skin creases and restore lost volume, while hyaluronic fillers are capable of a little bit more:

    • smooth lines and folds
    • restore the loss of volume
    • add volume to lips, chin, cheeks, and cheekbones
    • tighten the skin
    • hydrate.

    Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Why do so many people choose HA fillers? There are reasons. First of all, comprising the matrix of the dermal tissues, it exists naturally in the organism, so the introduction of this substance does not cause body reaction. Since it is of non-animal origin, it doe not provoke allergic reactions. It takes part in the processes of collagen and elastin production, thus the tissues get the additional source for restoring their elasticity and firmness. In general, hyaluronic acid has an incredibly positive impact on appearance, making it look healthy and radiant.

Moreover, this natural substance is capable of coping with various aesthetic tasks:

    • smooth fine lines and severe wrinkles: creases on the forehead and glabella area, crow’s feet, marionette lines, nasolabial folds
    • restore the volume lost due to natural aging processes in the cheeks, temples, lips
    • augment the lips, define the contours, correct the asymmetry
    • define facial features and facial contours: chin, cheekbones, jawline, oval of the face
    • improve the level of elasticity and firmness, general turgor

    Risks of Dermal Fillers Injections

As with most medications, the cosmetic procedure with fillers may have possible side effects:

    • pain
    • redness
    • swelling
    • bruising
    • sensitivity

Fortunately, they are temporary and do not last longer than a few days.

    To Sum Up

Hopefully, this article has explained what are dermal fillers and the medical procedure that is based on the gel injected beneath the skin. For most patients, it is a real miracle that eliminates the visible signs of aging and gives natural-looking results. Consult with your cosmetologist whether this anti-aging treatment is right and safe for you.
