Organisers of the Ascona Group Child of Wales Awards are delighted to announce that last year’s Young Performer winner, Lucciano Mortimore, impressed all four judges on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent, earning four yeses and securing his place as one of the standout young acts of the series. He will also return to perform at the 2026 awards this October.
Having both won the award and performed on stage at last year’s ceremony, Lucciano’s journey is a powerful example of how the awards help nurture young talent and build confidence, providing a platform that can lead to even greater opportunities.
Last Saturday (18 April), nine-year-old Lucciano captivated the live and TV audiences with his performance alongside his grandfather, Frankie. Their close bond, combined with his natural talent and warmth, made them one of the most memorable acts of the series so far.
Following this success, organisers are thrilled to confirm that Lucciano and Frankie will return to perform at this year’s Child of Wales Awards event, taking place on 2 October at the Swansea Building Society Arena. They will appear alongside headline act The Brand New Heavies at what is now a completely sold-out event.
Now in its fifth year, the Ascona Group Child of Wales Awards celebrate the achievements of inspirational young people from across Wales. The 2026 ceremony will welcome around 700 guests for an evening dedicated to recognising courage, resilience and outstanding contribution.
Lucciano, a pupil at Magor Church in Wales school in Caldicot, Monmouthshire, began performing at just five years old, singing alongside his grandfather in care homes. Entirely self-taught, he quickly discovered not only a love of music, but a deep passion for bringing joy to others.
With no formal training, Lucciano has built his own repertoire, carefully selecting songs that resonate with older audiences. His dedication is remarkable: after school, he heads straight to his room to rehearse. As he simply puts it, “If they are smiling, I know I have made their day.”
He now performs regularly across the country, lighting up care homes with both his voice and his empathy, and creating meaningful moments for residents and their families.
Awards organiser Blanche Sainsbury said:
“It’s set to be a truly unforgettable night celebrating the most inspiring young people in Wales and after an incredible performance on Britain’s Got Talent last weekend, Lucciano and Frankie absolutely brought the house down, and we couldn’t be prouder.
“Their talent, warmth and connection lit up the stage and captured hearts across the nation and we cannot wait to see what magic they bring to the stage in October.”
Entries are now open for the 2026 Young Performer award, with nominations accepted until 30 June.
